Two Quotes of the Day

Because when you're Manny Ramirez, one isn't enough:

Quote 1, after Frank McCourt shook Manny's hand after the game and said "We'll talk soon.":
"You see, that's the second time he's talked to me. The other time was the day I arrived."
Quote 2, when asked about his impending free agency:
"I just want to go home [to Florida] and spend some time with my family. I want to see who is the highest bidder. Gas is up and so am I."
Coming soon, Manny Ramirez DHing for the Orioles.

Has there ever been a better match for Scott Boras? A gifted hitter, more of a hitter savant, who can be emotionally/psychologically manipulated and easily convinced that others are against him. Boras had to be absolutley giddy when Ramirez informed him of his decision to drop his existing agent and to sign with him - the wheels must have started spinning immediately on how he could turn Ramirez into his latest cash cow despite two team option years on a contract that were in essence a pretty good deal for the team.

I guess the saving grace from all this Boras manipulation is that while I once thought he was the devil incarnate - the bottoming out (please tell me we hit the bottom) of the market and the expected tightening of purse strings throughout baseball indicates that Boras is actually human Manny should lose some money per year because of market conditions. Of course he could still manipulate Tom Hicks to make another bone-headed signing and then my theory on Boras is still alive.

the devil is still the devil, even if he can't tempt the stupid to follow him down the ladder....

APBA Guy-

Fabulous snark about the Orioles. Could they also be induced to pick up Andruw Jones for half a year?

@ Jason - you're preachin to the choir here. I love Manny. He is genuinely funny. Not funny / strange ( although he is that too ) but intentionally make you laugh funny. So, so much more fun than A Rod.

Ok, I'm goin way out here, but will Beeston make a big splash and sign Manny? Could Cito manage him? Can Beeston wring dollars from Rogers that Godfrey couldn't?

I will burn my Orioles hat if we sign him.
