Brian Sabean Hasn't a Clue

I decided to bring one of my favorite ShysterBall hobbies -- trashing Brian Sabean -- to FanHouse.

Nice work. Tough picture.

I think you're a little rough on Beltre. His 2004 season was obviously his career year, but he's been a decent offensive presence at 3B with arguably the best glove in the AL. And he's on pace to blow past his previous career high in walks.

I'm just wary of the mileage on his odometer. Sure, he's not 30 until next year, but he has played a lot of games for a guy his age, and the Giants' realistic competitive horizon is more like 3-4 years instead of 1-2 years. If it were the latter -- or if there were other players to help him do the lifting on offense -- I'd be more forgiving of a move to get Beltre.

I agree that it would be a horrible move for the Giants to make. They don't have a prayer of competing in the next couple of years (or as long as Sabean is around for that matter.) I just disagreed with him being lumped in with the retreads.

As a Giants fan, I couldn't agree more, except that I think your view of their roster is a little rough on Lewis, Bowker, Burriss, etc., SOME of whome MIGHT develope into decent players.

Do you ever think he should trade both Cain and Lincecum to get 8 really good prospects? Once those guys get good, try to trade them and get 16 good prospects, and maybe then, he'll have a decent team? Maybe he should call the A's and Twins first so he doesn't screw this up too.
