Jacque Jones to Detroit

That's the rumor anyway. Not exactly exciting news, but nothin' else is going on, so we'll take it. From the article:
Jones, who is due to make $5.5 million in 2008, would play leftfield for the
Tigers. It’s not clear if he would be an everyday player there, or if the club
would use a platoon of Jones and Marcus Thames or Ryan Raburn.

I think a Jones Raburn platoon could be fun, given that Jones, a lefty, hit lefties better than righties last year, and Raburn, a righty, hit righties better than lefties last year. Reverse platoon, baby!

That said, is having Jones around really all that much of an improvement over plugging Raburn in full time? I mean, Raburn isn't anything special, and giving up Infante for Jones is no great loss, but Jones will cost $5 million next year, and even in today's market, that's not chump change.

In the end, I'm not sure that Jones is even likely to outproduce Craig Monroe next year -- who, by the way, cost the Tigers just about the same as Jones last year -- and he was DFA'd for his trouble.

Cubs CF is Pie now? I think we all know the Cubs will be "addressing" their CF situation further.
