"If Brian stays on as GM, that doesn't mean he won't be the No. 1 guy. But the fact is, the more opinions the better. I think that's probably the best way. It worked in the 90's, and it can work again. We're going to have to look at what has been done wrong over the last five years, which I've had one year to try and figure out. Clearly, a lot of mistakes were made. I'm going to be reviewing the entire organization. We're going to do everything we can to win next year."There's a sense that Hank has no real power and that it's all Hal and Randy Levine and others calling the shots. Either way, if the Yankees brass -- already overloaded with folks with opinions on how things go -- adds even more folks to that mix and is seen as diluting Cashman's authority, I can see no reason why he'd want to hang around.

"I'm outta here!"
That's what Brian Cashman should say, anyway, after hearing this business from Hank Steinbrenner:

It's too bad for Yankees fans with a clue that their good GM is lost in a sea of front-office and media idiots.
As a Sox fan, allow me to say that Hank Steinbrenner is the gift that keeps on giving.
Brian Cashman, you deserve better. Get out while the gettin's good.
I wonder when scientists are going to discover the Steinbrenner insanity gene. I just can't fathomr how making the playoffs, but not winning the world series implies excessive mistakes.
After they lost the 1982 World Series, Herr Steinbrenner decided that the problem with the team is that they needed more team speed, so he went out and got Jerry Mumphrey, Dave Collins, and Ken Griffey Sr. I am hoping for more of the same.
It is simply amazing to me how little all of the Steinbrenners understand the game of baseball. Ergo, I hope Hank seizes power.
Of course, I meant the 1981 World Series.
Peter.... we know. trust me, we know.
