It's Pedroia

A perfectly respectable choice in a year with no clear front runner.

Morneau came in second, besting several guys who had better cases than he -- and the fact that K-Rod finished way ahead of Cliff Lee despite finishing behind him in the Cy Young is quite odd -- but I think enough virtual ink has been spilled over the down-ballot stuff this year that we can let that go.

Overall, it seems like the writers got the winner of all of the major awards right, with "right" being defined as who I think probably should have won.

I'm happy for Pedrioa but does anyone else think if Mauer was 5'8 and 170lbs, and Pedrioa was 6'4 and 220 lbs, Mauer would have one it?

or better yet... who voted Jason Bartlett 5th? Longoria didn't even get a vote above 6th.

Yeah, i've been trying not to nitpick about individual votes, because in the end all the votes were pretty acceptable, but the guy voting bartlett 5th should lose voting rights immediately.

On the bright side, they changed the web page to a slightly less retina-searing color of green for the AL results.

I'm a Red Sox fan, and am thrilled for Dustin... but what the hell does Joe Mauer have to do to win an MVP? Or at least get some first place votes! How does Morneau finish significantly ahead of Mauer? How could it be that large of a victory for Pedroia when he and Mauer were basically indistinguishable statistically. Maybe -- and only if you need a tiebreaker and are inclined to weigh such things -- you give Pedroia a slight edge because his team actually made the playoffs, but Mauer 4th? That is absurd.

Is it not, "than he" rather than "then him"?

even as a red sox fan i agree with anon2...

i envision the bbwaa watching pedey the same with a mother watches her child play little league... "aww, look what my little guy is doing" type of attitude

I saw Pedroia play here when he was a PawSox and a "bad body" guy. He was really stocky but he could hit. I remember thinking there was no way he would be a big league middle infielder....then I read he lost some weight and I thought, well he won't hit enough now and when I saw him again ( on TV ) it was strking how different his body was / is.

All that to say, I guess that's why I'm in my basement and not a baseball scout.

I agree that Pedroia and Mauer were very close statistically... but the Sox making the playoffs, and the Twins *barely* missing should in NO WAY be the difference maker. Rather, Mauer playing the more demanding position and having better clutch performance stats should be the difference maker. The writers flubbed this one. It looks closer now than it will in a few years.
