Harsh Words

Look, I know I've been hard on the BBWAA, but some headlines are just over the top.

Of course, I'm an Ohio State fan, and my team's success in gaming the BCS in recent years is the equivalent of Aaron Heilman winning the Cy Young, so I probably have no room to talk.

Craig, man...the Buckeyes have enough haters out there without our own fans piling on. You're supposed to point out that we have the balls to schedule Texas and USC out of conference.

[crosses fingers and prays to god that we don't get embarrassed in this year's bowl game]

Oooh, a Heilman jab. I like it.

And really is there anything more annoying than the fact that OSU decided to call themselves THE Ohio State University. And all the announcers bought in and when they do those starting lineup things for NFL games on ESPN or NBC where the players say their name and school all the former Buckeyes emphasize THE. Aaaargh.

I know Peter, but at some point you gotta own up to reality. I actually think we were the best team when we played Florida for the championship, but that Troy Smith was out of shape, we got shellshocked when Ginn was hurt, and we otherwise simply forgot to show up. Last year I saw the thumping coming from a mile away. I was actually happy that Penn St. lost last week because it spares us another year of people hating. We need to lie low for a year or two, and when Pryor leads us to an undefeated national championship season, we can tell all of the haters to suck it.

dtro: As a graduate of THE Ohio State University, I have no idea what you're talking about. Would you prefer an indefinite article? I love the THE, and am quite pleased when it annoys people.

Yeah, we deserve a lot of it...it just kills me to hear people say stuff like "Ohi-ya State would win 4 games in the SEC" (and, living in Atlanta for the last 5 years, I've heard a lot of that garbage). But that's what happens when you get beat down two years in a row -- we're gonna have to take one of these teams behind the woodshed to get rid of that stigma. I'd love for it to be Georgia in the Capital One Bowl, but being a Georgia Tech grad and lifelong Buckeyes fan, I'm not sure I could wake up the next day if we lost that game.

How dare someone vote for Halladay over Lee! Halladay's team won more games (apparently the Cy Young award is the opposite of the MVP-Award; making the playoffs hurts your chances).

AN Ohio State University. Yea, I kinda like that. It would leave people wondering...

To be honest, that might be more accurate given the sattelite campuses scattered around the state . . .

Halladay had a great case for Cy. I have no problem with Lee actually winning, but c'mon. Hallady was not an egregious choice.
