And That Happened

Dodgers 7, Phillies 2: I had the Dodgers taking it in 6, but even if I had it the other way around, I would truly hope that L.A. takes the next game anyway, simply because if this goes six or seven games it could get all epic on us. Headhunting. Angry Manny. The whole Moyer-got-shelled-but-at-least-he's-relatively-fresh-for-later-games-and-in-search-of-redemption angle. Hell, even Nomar Garciaparra contributed to the party yesterday. I'd really like to see this thing go seven games.

By the way, didn't you just love Victorino's wildly theatrical hit-me-in-the-ribs-not-the-head thing after getting brushed back? He was right on the etiquette, of course, but I'm guessing that McCarver was so pissed that he couldn't use the opportunity to explain it to everyone, ad nauseum, himself.

I don't know how I feel about Derek Lowe going on three days rest tonight. He hasn't done too well in that position in the past, and I'm still not convinced he didn't hurt himself a bit in Game 1. Then again -- and last year's experience with Wang notwithstanding -- Joe Torre has slightly more playoff experience than I do, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Lowe is going to get up like a Christmas tree.

Victorino's theatrics were classic. I would still have liked to see him clock Martin, though.

Speaking of which, did anyone catch Martin's comments about not throwing at his head, "we threw it over his head." Let's see if Blanton throws it "over" Martin's head tonight . . .

The thing is, McCarver *still* explained the bejesus out of Victorino's uber-obvious pantomime. "What he's saying," says McCarver as Victorino plays Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes at the plate, "is 'I don't mind if you hit me in the ribs, just don't hit me in the head.' See? See?"

I don't get as annoyed at Mc as most fans, but I had to laugh at how pleased he seemed to be offering his insightful translation of this esoteric baseballery.

And yes, I suppose it's crass of me to be looking forward to more antics, but, gosh dern it, I can't wait for Game 4...(plunk!)
