Great Moments in Laziness

I don't troll my statcounter too often, but sometimes fun stuff comes up when I do. For example, I noticed this morning that someone reached this blog by Googling "Ball Four Cliffs Notes."

I love Bouton and everything, but can someone tell me what, exactly, there is in the way of complex narrative and literary subtext in Ball Four that would necessitate Cliffs Notes? Like Freud said, sometimes a beaver shoot is just a beaver shoot.

How do you find that information?

My statcounter (and I think all of them actually) logs the page which referred the viewer to my page, whether it be a link on another page or a search (which in reality is just a page of results itself).

Folks really do leave a trail out there in cyberspace, so be careful out there.

Does blogger.com have a built in one or is something that you'd have to install?

I don't think Blogger has one. Sitemeter is a popular one. So is StatCounter (I use it, but I think more people use Sitemeter). There may be others.

Basically, when you sign up with those sites, they give you a couple of lines of code you drop into your page (on Blogger you can just "add a page element" on Dashboard) and it takes care of itself. To check your stats (hits, came-froms, etc.) you simply go to your statcounter's page, log in, and see what you have.

It's a totally narcissitic exercise, of course, but everybody wastes a lot of time looking at their blog's stats.

Guilty as charged (stat counter watching).

Though, on days that Shysterball links to me, I can watch the numbers twirl.

That is too funny...maybe they just have all the funny lines, (though they kind of lose something without the setup). Like the part where he talks about his roommate (I think) who didn't speak English...the first phrases he learned were all swears.
They could just whittle that down to "Son of a bleach!"

So not to turn this into a statcounter workshop, but how do you go about seeing where your visitors visited from once you have it installed?

Depends on what you're using, but if you have StatCounter, there is a menu down the left side of your stats page that lists various options such as "came from" "recent pageload activity" "Browser" "System Stats" "City/State/ISP" etc.

Each of those give you a different brakdown. "Came from" lists the referring sites (i.e. sites with direct links). "Keyword analysis" lists the search terms people used to find your blog such as "Andruw Jones fat" and "Debbie Clemens tits" to name a couple of my most popular ones (don't ask me about that last one; I don't think I've ever used that phrase before).

Isn't your rage against Roger and your fascination with Debbie's tits considered a conflict of interest? Not that object, as a matter of course.

I dunno. Given that he (a) threw Debbie under the bus during the hearings; and (b) may have cheated on her with an underage girl while she was home raising four kids, Debbie herself may be in an adversarial relationship with Roger quite soon.

If forced to choose, I'm goin' with the MILF.

Debbie Clemens, now a rich, angry, deceived, cheated-on, MILF.

Quite the dangerous sort. Like a rabid hyena with a pet piranha
