David Ortiz is out a month and could miss the whole season due to tendon sheath damage in his wrist. This is scary stuff. Nomar had wrist surgery back when he was good, and then he was never good again. Ken Caminiti was having his last good season before a ruptured tendon sheath ended it and basically his career.
Well, in Caminiti's case the tendon sheath had a lot of help from all of that crack and alcohol, but his swing was pretty much toast after that too.

Here's hoping Papi doesn't follow that precedent. He deserves better.
What is going to become, by the way, of that State Farm home run derby promotion?
The token Pittsburgh Pirate All-Star calls his shot?
And the fan who wins the promotion wants to know who Nate McClouth is and why he's participating in the Major League All-Star game.
When Ortiz couldn't finish his at-bat the other night, I knew he was heading to the DL. Naturally, the Red Sox front office, which acts like the Kremlin, couldn't be relied upon decent information for several days. As a Sox fan, I'm hope Papi's back in a month (or even two), but I'm doubting it.
They should sit him down and sign Bonds. But they won't.
