This past summer, Chris Dickerson wanted to do his part for the environment by taking better care of his little corner of the world -- a Triple-A clubhouse in Louisville, Ky. He did so by starting a bottle-recycling program that was embraced by his team.Marty Brennaman is torn. On the one hand, he's a rock-ribbed Republican, so he's probably not all that impressed with an eco-friendly outfielder. On the other hand, Marty's hatred of Adam Dunn burns with the intensity of a thousand suns, so he's likely going to love Dunn's replacement no matter who he is. My guess is that he'll be happier with Dickerson around, but he may be on a short leash.
Dickerson's career moved to a higher level in August when he reached the Major Leagues with the Reds. He's hoping his efforts to help the environment can do likewise next season.
"I'm just trying to make people conscious of how much plastic we use as a team on a daily basis," Dickerson said.
HEY YOU! More ShysterBall here!

marty brenneman doesn't sound like my type of character
Maybe they'll sign Schilling as a counter balance.
Marty used to be a good broadcaster, but man has he gotten bitter in recent years.
I really don't care about his politics -- a Republican in southwest Ohio is not exactly an oddity, and I'm not sure he's ever really gotten involved in politics -- but I was trying to think of something to say about the eco stuff, and that's all I had.
Slow day, you know?
Craig, where was this obligatory picture to go along with your post??

Who is that, OMJ?
Him? The proprietor of some of the finest situation comedy Canadian public television has to offer.

Funny stuff. During the chat he declared his 100% GOP purity right after stating his complete support of salary caps and revenue sharing.
Cheers to young Dickerson on keeping his little corner of the universe a little cleaner. We should all do the same.
On a side note, ARAMARK has started a major recycling program at all Major League parks where they have a concessions contract, and it's working. Centerplate is also doing it a Nats Park in DC. Granted, it's probably only because those guys finally realized that there's money in plastic and waste vegetable oil, but whatever the motivation, every little bit helps.
Did you add that link at the bottom after Neyer linked you to his blog? $100 says you did...
Of course I did. As my post from this morning suggests, I am not above obvious traffic whoring.
No one should ever, EVER, take Marty Brenneman's opinion seriously. I went to college in Ohio ten years ago, and that guy was a lost cause even then. Bitter, angry, and if not delusional, at least willfully ignorant about baseball. If something happens that doesn't fit with his worldview/opinion about baseball, he ignores it or misrepresents it. Just a bad guy.
Totally agree about Marty Brennaman. HOF broadcaster who has gone negative in a major way. And he is one of the dinousauers who has little regard for statistical analysis. Worst, he is so beloved in Cincy, that his influence on the fans is counterproductive for the team...
