Say What?

Buster Olney notes the "holes left unfilled among the contending teams." The teams he lists: Mets, Padres, Dodgers, Angels, Cardinals, Giants, Mariners, Phillies, Cubs.

One of those names stand out to you? His comment on the hole the Giants need to fill: "power bat; closers." I like Olney, but methinks the assessment of the Giants' holes -- let alone including them in a list of contenders -- is a wee bit charitable.

(thanks to jnr98 for the pic!)

Know what else? Know how I usually put little pictures next to posts? Well, let's just say that the reason there isn't one next to this post is because a Google Image search for "giant hole" isn't a pretty picture.

I like Olney when he's in Storytelling mode. Talking about locker room stuff, the greatness of a moment, that kind of stuff. When he gets analytical, though, I just sort've lose interest. He tends toward those old fashioned truisms about baseball, and while they're not all wrong, at this point, they're not really that interesting.
