You're doin' a heckuva a job, Tony!

All Star Game ratings are in. Overall they were down, with 8.4% of TV watchers tuning in. This is fun, though:

The top metered markets for the All-Star Game were St. Louis
(18.9/29),
Boston (16.5/29); Milwaukee (16.1/26); Detroit (15.7/25) and
Minneapolis (14.8/27).

Suppose any of them wanted to see Pujols bat with two out in the bottom of the 9th?

  1. According to the AP, La Russa would have rather forfeited the game than allowed a pitcher to hit in extra innings.

That, folks, is supposedly one of the best managers in baseball right there.

  2. I recall in the early 80s there was a Sports Illustrated cover with a picture of LaRussa on it. Over his face was superimposed what was then futuristic looking high-tech computer readout stuff, and some line about La Russa being a forward thinking genius of a manager or something.

Man, that was a long time ago.
