But for what it's worth, Bannister wouldn't have shut them out because he's nowhere near as good as Lester (and unlike many statheads, I'm not a Bannister fan). Any Braves' starters who got close to shutting out the Yankees would have had their arms fall off, gotten blisters, or would have lost anyway as Jeff Francoeur grounded into five double plays.Craig Calcaterrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00190345915954808542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9131289420618991795.post-65204282296291876122008-07-06T13:17:00.000-04:002008-07-06T13:17:00.000-04:00Shyster, Had it been Brian Bannister or one of the...Shyster,

Had it been Brian Bannister or one of the Braves' starters to blank the NYY, would your impression have been different?tadthebadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12850610376839190688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9131289420618991795.post-44618811114170002222008-07-04T08:50:00.000-04:002008-07-04T08:50:00.000-04:00I seem to remember a similar occurrence with Mark ...I seem to remember a similar occurrence with Mark Buerhle a couple of years ago, against the Cubs, with Zambrano. Buerhle gives up 7 in the first, but Guillen won't pull him, figuring it's a waste of bullpen arms to pull him in the first in a game that's probably out of reach already.

In fact, B-Ref tells me that game happened almost exactly two years ago. Coincidence!?!

http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200607020.shtmlTChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09206833333366507894noreply@blogger.com
