Hello, Tampa! And congratulations to your Rays!He didn't go any further. I suppose he thought that it would have hurt his Captain Cool persona a bit by adding " . . . those lucky-ass Rays who, if Ozzie Guillen had the roster he had wanted would have still been dizzy from the beatdown from my White Sox that they so richly deserved!!!! BOOOYAHHHH!!!"
But man, wouldn't that have been cool?
UPDATE: And for those of you who think I'm unhinged for talking about this so much today, well, you're right, but I'm not singularly unhinged. Here's a big post on it from Politico. Obama was apparently introduced by David Price and other Rays. Additional comments from the junior senator from Illinois:
"I have said from the beginning that I'm a unity candidate, bringing people together. So when you see a White Sox fan showing some love for the Rays and the Rays showing some love back, you know we're onto something here."I see through you Barack . . . I see through you . . .
Score one for not pandering. Thank goodness.
ReplyDelete"You know what, Rays fans? I don't even want your votes after what your team did to my White Sox."
ReplyDeleteIf he did that, I might have to become a White Sox fan.
"The Phillies have always been my favorite National League team."
ReplyDeleteNow that's pandering.
* Note: This was not actually said by any politician recently.
At a rally in Philly two weeks ago, Obama said he was "rooting for the Phillies" from here on out, now that the Sox are out.
ReplyDeleteWhen you think about it, it's not really pandering, it's that politicians are the biggest bandwagoners ever. All of them wind up saying, "Go Team X, provided Team X makes the World Series." And then in their concession speeches (if they lose the election), they always say how much they're behind the candidate who won.
ReplyDeleteThey should just say, "This country is going down the crapper now that the other candidate won. I'll be moving to Switzerland. See you all later."
It would be great to see some candidates talk trash, wouldn't it? Plenty of "booyas!" and "what you got's!?!" And you'd have to set a maximum physical separation of three feet...really up in eachother's grill. Alas, I'm not sure any politician is smart or witty enough to pull it off.
ReplyDeleteDon King would have to be present, tad!
ReplyDeleteAt a rally in Pennsylvania today John McCain said he wasn't stupid enough to take sides in the World Series when both teams are from swing states.
ReplyDeleteWhen the press continued to push him to pick a side, McCain finally relented and chose "those bums from Brooklyn."
ReplyDelete(What? You know we can't have a politcal discussion without at least one McCain/age joke.)
